John King: Who actually contacted you to tell you that you were going to have this opportunity?
John Gooden: Gary Cook contacted me first but I had been in touch with some people from the UFC office beforehand.

John King: Up to now, what's the most exciting fight you've seen?
John Gooden: For me the most exciting fight was Gustafsson vs. Manuwa because it was my first event and it was the main event, also there was a lot on the line for Gus and a huge opportunity for Jimi.

John King: Of all the champions at the moment, who do you think is most likely to retire with the belt?
John Gooden: I think I'm going to have to go with Ronda, she is in a different league to her competition and she seems to get better with every fight.

John King: Jon Anik had a opportunity to have a test run before commentating, did you?
John Gooden: Yes, I had a practice go at UFC 170 for the Rousey vs. McMann fight, but thats the only one we had.

John King: What was your biggest fear whilst doing your first UFC event?
John Gooden: On a personal level, I guess it was whether the UFC fans and media approved of my commentary style, because if they didn't like my style i would have to make some big changes.

John King: Do you train any Martial Arts?
John Gooden: Yes, I have been injured recently but I have been training since 2004-05, before that I competed in Judo, Karate, amateur boxing, I have trained in BJJ and Muay Thai. I have been training since i was 7-8 years old.

John King: What gym do you normally train at?
John Gooden: I train at team crossface, it is owned by UFC veteran David Lee!

John King: Who is the most decorated fighter you've trained with?
John Gooden: I'd have to say Erik Paulson, he's David Lee's coach and has done a couple of seminars and has fought all over the world.

John King: Why did you get into commentating?
John Gooden: I thought the sport was being represented poorly from many different angles and I got a chance to help out for a local show, it weren't televised but I thought it was a good opportunity to get to know fighters.

John King: What was the firsts televised organisation you commentated  on?
John Gooden: The first televised show I commentated on was KAYO MA.

John King: Thanks for doing the interview, a lot of people would of turned it down because we are small at the moment, so thanks for doing it.
John Gooden: Yeah, okay keep going, its you young guys that are going to keep the sport going in the future.

John Gooden: So you said you trained down at Next Gen?
John King: Yes, I do.
John Gooden: Well I have a lot of respect for Paul Rimmer and all the guys down at Next Gen, I haven't talked to them for a while, say hi to them from me!

That's all for now fight fans, I hope you enjoyed our first interview and stay tuned for many more!

-John.
