Hey everyone!
Nick here to explain the situation Middleweight and Light Heavyweight divison are in right now regarding future title shots. It's actually pretty confusing. Almost none of this is actually confirmed, but most of it has been talked about and probably will happen.
Middleweight -
As you all probably know, Chris Weidman is defending his belt against Lyoto Machida in the main event of UFC 175 on July 6th.
Vitor Belfort was originally supposed to fight Weidman at UFC 173 was forced to drop out because of the TRT ban in Vegas. He said for sure he is getting the winner of Weidman vs. Machida.
Then, there's Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza. Souza has said he wants the winner of Michael Bisping and Tim Kennedy to earn himself a title shot. Bisping is fighting Kenndy at TUF: Nations Finale this week - Wednesday.
I think it'll all play down like this: Machida defeats Weidman, becomes champion. Then Machida vs. Belfort, not sure who wins that one. Could go either way, I don't know if Belfort will be as good as he was in 2013 without the TRT. Bisping beats Kennedy, then gets demolished by Souza. Then Souza fights winner of Machida vs. Belfort. Then, where does Weidman come back in? Who knows.
And then......there's Anderson Silva.
Light Heavyweight -
As you all probably know, Jon Jones is defending his belt against Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 172 on April 26th. Like Jones' last fight, I think this one will also be difficult for him, but I believe he'll pull it off. Then Alexander Gustafsson gets the rematch, and I really can't say who wins this one. I think it'll be close, like their first appearance in the Octagon together.
Daniel Cormier is probably fighting Dan Henderson for a title shot. Cormier will win this one, for sure. Only way he wouldn't is if Henderson gets super lucky with the H-BOMB.
So, the winner of Cormier vs. Henderson will probably fight the winner of Jones and Teixeira vs. Gustafsson.
Then there's Phil Davis.
Very confusing! Some of this is basically confirmed, like Belfort getting the title shot vs the winner of Weidman and Machida. I don't think Dana White will have a problem giving Souza the fight against the winner of Bisping vs Kennedy. The one matchup that is the least confirmed, you can call it, is Cormier vs Hendo but I believe it'll happen.
Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed this post!
