UFC Official Fighter Rankings Updated

The Monday following UFC events the UFC Official Fighter Rankings generated by a group of media members are always slightly changed.  The changes made to the rankings depend on the outcome of the event. 

In this case, UFC 173 last Saturday and one of the greatest Championship upsets of all time occurred.  We all know by now TJ Dillashaw is the new Bantamweight Champion, who defeated Ex-Champ Renan Barao by 5th round TKO.  Dillashaw was dominant throughout the whole fight. 

These are the changes to the rankings following UFC 173.

Pound-for-Pound:

  • Former Champion Renan Barao went down from 3rd position to 8th on the P4P rankings.
  • Champions Cain Velasquez, Demetrious Johnson and Chris Weidman all moved up one spot to 3rd, 4th and 5th.
  • Champion Anthony Pettis went up 2 spots passing Former Champion Anderson Silva and Renan Barao.  Silva remains at 7th and Pettis is now at 6th.
  • Champion T.J. Dillashaw is now at 11th on the rankings.
  • Top contenders Vitor Belfort, Benson Henderson, Alexander Gustafsson and Gilbert Melendez all went down a rank, now at 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th.
  • Urijah Faber is no longer in the top 15.
Flyweight:

No changes occurred in the Flyweight rankings.

Bantamweight:

  • Champion T.J. Dillashaw was of course moved up to the Champion position, going up from 4th.
  • Renan Barao was moved down from Champion to 1st.
  • Urijah Faber, Raphael Assuncao and Michael McDonald all moved down one, now at 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
  • Johnny Eduardo went up to 9th place from 12th.
  • Dominick Cruz went down one, to 10th.
  • Francisco Rivera went down 2, to 12th.
Featherweight:

  • Jeremy Stephens moved up to 10th and Dennis Bermudez moved down to 11th.
Lightweight:

  • Benson Henderson moved up one place, to 1st.
  • Gilbert Melendez moved down one, to 2nd.
Welterweight:

  • Jake Ellenberger went down 2 places, to 7th.
  • Matt Brown and Hector Lombard both moved up one place, now at 5th and 6th.
Middleweight:

  • Vitor Belfort moved up one to 2nd place.
  • Lyoto Machida moved down one to 3rd.
Light Heavyweight:

  • Daniel Cormier moved up 2 places, to 2nd.
  • Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira both moved down one, now at 3rd and 4th.
  • Phil Davis moved up one to 6th.
  • Dan Henderson moved down one to 7th.
Heavyweight:

  • Minotauro Nogueira went up one to 13th place.
  • Brendan Schaub went down one to 14th place.
