Belfort was just weeks away from challenging Chris Weidman for the UFC Middleweight Championship at UFC 173 but The Nevada State Athletic Commission banned TRT, which Belfort was a user of. Belfort was pulled from the fight and Lyoto Machida stepped in, the fight was later moved to UFC 175. Since agreeing to fight Chael Sonnen at UFC 175, there has been a lot of speculation over Belfort's drug test results, many people were wondering if he was still taking something illegal and he did admit that he failed a drug test February. Sonnen criticized Wanderlei heavily for literally running away from drug tests.
