Middleweight fighter Mark Munoz has been removed from the official UFC Rankings following his loss to Gegard Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 41 on May 31 in a result of a finished contract.
His fight on May 31 was his last one on his contract, but MMAjr can confirm that he will be back in the UFC and is currently finalizing a new deal with the UFC. We had the opportunity today (June 10th) to talk to Munoz on the phone for a few minutes. I asked him a few questions regarding whether or not we'll see him back in the Octagon, next possible opponents, and more.
'The Filipino Wrecking Machine' will be out for the next 3 months because following his loss he suffered a grade 3 MCL tear as well as a strained ACL.
Munoz said that he wants to avenge his last 3 losses, which were to champion Chris Weidman, title contender Lyoto Machida, and Gegard Mousasi.
Munoz did not have a specific fighter he would like to fight in his return fight, although a rematch with Mousasi sparked his interest, and he'd like it to happen before his career ends. He told me that his first-round submission loss was a surprise to him.
Nothing has been announced officially by the UFC, but expect an official announcement in the coming weeks when the deal is finalized. I can confirm that the UFC does indeed want the Filipino back in action inside the Octagon.
