UFC Fight Night 42 is in the books.
The co-main event last Saturday (June 7th) was Diego Sanchez vs. Ross Pearson is a lightweight bout that was a nomination for Fight of the Night even before the fight began. It was not Fight of the Night, and definitely had a strange twist.
Ross Pearson dominated the entire fight. I don't think anybody except for 2 out of the 3 judges thought fan-favorite Diego Sanchez won. Sure, Sanchez landed punches here and there, but nothing major. Diego did the most damage at the last 10 seconds of each round, which isn't enough. Pearson even dropped Sanchez one time, and the only takedown was under Ross' name.
So, how did Sanchez win this fight? I don't even think his own family and friends would say he won the fight, if they were completely honest. It's too obvious that Pearson won.
Jeff Collins should be so ashamed, and even professional fighters said this. He gave Diego all 3 rounds. It's so bad, I'm saying, it'd be hard to find someone who gave Diego a single round, never mind all three.
Marcos Rosales gave Ross 3 rounds, and Chris Tellez gave Sanchez round 1 and 3.
I understand judges make mistakes. Where, fights are close enough that no one will panic if they thought the fighter who lost should've won. Say, one guy wins the first round, the other guy wins the second round, and then the third round is really close. You can't say that would be bad judging, as it was close.
I don't know if the 2 judges who gave it to Sanchez were watching the fight, or just blind, let me just put it straight forward. There's absolutely no way Diego Sanchez won the fight. The thing that bugs me the most is that 2 judges scored the fight 30-27. For different fighters. How is that even possible, for 2 judges to give all 3 rounds to different fighters? Are they watching different fights, or what? Judges are absolutely crazy sometimes.
We know Sanchez was fighting in his hometown last night. If the fight was really close, I wouldn't be surprised they'd give it to Diego so the crowd goes nuts. When it's this close though, I don't even think the crowd appreciated that Sanchez won. They probably felt more disgusted than happy.
This can't make the UFC look too great either, even though the judges are from the Albuquerque State Athletic Commission. They are planning to return, likely next year, but after this decision, I'd maybe think that one through a little more. I can't wait to see what Dana White says about this, he won't be happy.
