It was announced that the Main Event would be a welterweight contest between #1 ranked Robbie Lawler and #5 ranked Matt Brown.
I get chills just thinking about this fight and when I picture it in my head it makes me smile, that's how great it is! I'd just like to say a big thank you to the UFC matchmakers who put this fight together because this is set out to be one of the most entertaining fights of 2014.

Robbie Lawler has only just fought, he put on a brilliant performance and stopped Jake Ellenberger in the third round at UFC 173, and one fight before that he took Johny Hendricks into deep waters in a fight for the ages. The fact that he's been scheduled to fight again leaves us asking, is he human? Dana White also mentioned in his Post UFC 173 Media Scrum that Lawler is currently moving his family down to Florida and is looking for a house there, so this schedule can't be easy.

Matt Brown recently fought Erick Silva in Cincinnati, it was the first card he had headlined and he didn't disappoint, he put a beating on Silva for the better part of 3 rounds, he was visibly hurt for the first time though, Silva landed vicious shots to the body and ended up dropping Brown with a hook to the liver. This didn't effect Brown as he plowed through and stopped Silva with punches and elbows in the third round. This isn't Brown's only impressive win of late, though, he has been on a tear and is now riding a 7 fight win streak. Why has Brown not had a shot at the title yet? Well, he started his UFC career in pretty good fashion, racking up a 4-1 record, but then he lost 3 in a row and suddenly his job was in danger, boy did he turn that around.
It was actually clear to me from the fight with Jordan Mein that Brown's weakness was his body. I was almost certain that Mike Pyle was going to attack his body but if that was his game plan, it didn't work, he was knocked out in 29 seconds. Matt Brown has finished a lot of guys early and he has worn guys out with his relentless pace, but he needs to understand that neither of them tactics is going to work with Robbie Lawler.
Lawler will keep up with him throughout the whole fight and will probably land more damaging blows as his hands are, in my opinion, heavier. Lawler is a very dangerous guy on the feet and Matt Brown will find it very hard to take him down. Lawler's take-down defense is on-point and he was only taken down once in his fight against Champion Johny Hendricks.

Lawler isn't one of them guys who has heavy hands and just swings wildly, he analyses his opponent and when he finds their weaknesses, he attacks it. I'm sure he will watch the Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva fight in preparation for their bout, and he will see the weaknesses of Matt Brown, and when he does, he will train to exploit those weaknesses.
Brown is a very 'rage' kind of guy, he always looks angry, always comes forward and never, ever, shows his opponents mercy. He is a nightmare match-up for most fighters. Most fighters don't enjoy striking with him, so they try and out-wrestle him, bad idea. That is exactly what Erick Silva did, Brown ended up mounting him and pounding his face into the mat, not a very pretty sight.
Prediction:
Both of these men are excellent wrestlers and both have dynamite in their hands, I would say that Robbie Lawler has more power than Brown, I also think he will be able to stop Brown's take-down attempts, so where does this leave Brown? Well, Brown can still throw leather, he can keep up a formidable pace and he can hope to catch Lawler with something.
As I said earlier, Robbie Lawler is an expert at exploiting guys' weaknesses, and I think that will play a huge part here. I think Lawler will come out strong, he will throw hard shots to the body of Matt Brown early and often, and in the end this will stop Matt Brown performing in the manner he would like to. Look at it this way, Robbie Lawler punches 10 times harder than Erick Silva, and Silva dropped brown with body shots. This leads me to believe that Lawler won't tire Brown out with body shots, but instead, he will finish Matt Brown and end Matt Browns 7 fight tear.
Prediction: Robbie Lawler via second round TKO due to body shots.
