Winner of Lawler-Brown earns a title shot, not MacDonald-Woodley

Earlier today UFC President Dana White announced the headline for UFC on FOX 12.  UFC on FOX 12 is the third-quarter of the year FOX event, which is taking place on July 26th in San Jose, California.

Before today, notable fights already on the card include Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Josh Thomson vs. Michael Johnson.  Especially Anthony Johnson with a win in San Jose would put him only a couple more wins away from a title shot.

The headline for UFC on FOX 12 is Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown, both fighters coming off recent spectacular TKO victories.

UFC 174 is being headlined by Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson vs. Ali Baugatinov.  The co-main event is Welterweight matchup Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley.  UFC 174 is taking place on June 14th in Vancouver, Canada.

MacDonald vs. Woodley was assumed to determine who would get the next crack at Welterweight gold, currently held by Johny Hendricks.  Dana White never officially announced that bout would earn the winner a title shot.

It has been cleared up today that they winner between MacDonald and Woodley will not get a title shot.  It will likely put the winner close to a title shot, likely one more win would do the trick.

The winner between the likely very entertaining matchup Lawler vs. Brown is going to get the next title shot.  If I was in charge I would give the winner of MacDonald and Woodley the title shot after the winner of Lawler and Brown gets it.  Just like how Daniel Cormier locked in his title shot against the winner of Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson.

I believe this choice of who gets the title shot against Johny Hendricks is the correct choice.  What is your opinion?  Comment below, we love hearing your opinions!  You can also send me a tweet at @NickUFC.
