The return of former champion Anderson Silva has been a big topic in the MMA world ever since he snapped his leg at UFC 168 last December. Silva was making his attempt at regaining his Middleweight gold after Chris Weidman defeated him earlier that summer.
We've seen videos of Silva training, including kicking with his surgery-healed leg, and we even know when he will most likely make his return to the Octagon. Silva is aiming at an early 2015 return. Up until just a couple days ago, no opponents have been thought of.
There are many fighters Silva could make his return against. Any contender at Middleweight, and even a welterweight fighter. A superfight against former champ Georges St-Pierre has been talked about for a long time, but isn't likely to happen anytime soon. St-Pierre vacated his belt following his controversial successful title defense against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. It actually would make sense, 2 dominant former champions make their return fight against each other. If we ever see this superfight, it most likely wouldn't occur on the men's return fights.
Last Wednesday on UFC Tonight the return of Anderson Silva was brought up. It was announced that a possibly opponent for his return in early 2015 is welterweight fan-favorite Nick Diaz. Diaz went on a semi-retirement after he lost to Georges St-Pierre in early 2013. Lately he has shown an interest in returning to the Octagon but has specifically said only for a top fight.
Both Silva's camp and Diaz's camp has shown interest in the match up. Silva's camp believes it makes sense and Diaz says he'll do the fight if the pay is high enough.
So do you think we'll see this match up when 'The Spider' returns, or will he be fighting someone different? Would you like to see a 3rd fight against current champion Chris Weidman, if he is dethroned by Lyoto Machida in July?
